- Introduction:
- Give two general senses in which the word church is used. Matt. 16:18; Eph. 1:22-23; 1 Tim. 3:14-15.
- DEFINITION: The church established by Christ is that spiritual realm over which Christ is head, composed of members called "the body of Christ", and in which the Holy Spirit dwells.
- Importance Of The Church Compared With Other Organizations:
- Is the church for man's spiritual or physical needs?
- Is the spirit more important than the flesh? Matt. 10:28.
- Do fraternal and industrial organizations purpose to supply man's temporal or spiritual needs?
- What institution only, offers to man blessings beyond the grave?
- What is the more valuable: the man or the house in which he lives? Heb. 3:4-6; Matt. 7:24-27.
- Is there any institution that can offer as much to man as the church? 1 Tim. 4:7-8.
- God Is The Author Of The Church, Whereas Men Are The Builders Of The Other Institutions:
- Could we claim any building is equal to the one God built?
- To whom must we look for our eternal interest? Heb. 2:9-10.
- What The Church Was Designed To Be And Do:
- What constitutes the temple of God? 2 Cor. 6:16; Eph. 2:19-20.
- Where does God dwell? Acts 17:24.
- Of what kind of stones is God's temple built? 1 Pet. 2:5.
- The Mission Of The Church Is To Support The Truth: 1 Tim. 3:15.
- Of what is the church composed? Acts 2:47.
- The Importance Of The Church In Comparison With All Other Bodies Is Its Cost:
- What price was paid for the church? Acts 20:28; Eph. 5:25.
- What is Christ the savior of? Eph. 5:23.
- Where are the names of the members of the church written? Heb. 12:23; Rev. 3:5; 20:15.
- Will man or his buildings last? 1 Pet. 1:22-25.
- Will the church stand after all other plants are rooted up? Matt. 15:13; 1 Pet. 2:24-25.
