THE NAME OF THE CHURCH
- IN THE NEW TESTAMENT THE CHURCH IS CALLED:
- The temple of God. (1 Cor. 3:16)
- The bride of Christ. (Eph. 5:21-32)
- The body. (Col. 1:24; Eph. 1:22-23)
- The kingdom. (Col. 1:13)
- The house of God. (1 Tim. 3:15)
- The church. (Eph. 3:10)
- Church of God. (1 Cor. 1:2)
- Church of the Lord. (Acts 20:28, A.R.V.)
- Churches of Christ. (Rom. 16:16)
- WHOSE NAME SHOULD THE CHURCH WEAR?
- It should wear the name of Christ because he was crucified for it. (I Cor. 1:12-13; Acts 20:28)
- It should wear the name of Christ because we are baptized into him
(Rom. 6:3-4; Gal. 3:26-27; Matt. 28:18-19)
- It should wear the name of Christ because he built it. (Matt. 16:18)
We read of Noah's Ark, Solomon's Temple and Christ's Church.
- It should wear the name of Christ because it is the bride of Christ.
(Eph. 5:23-27) The wife should wear the name of a husband.
- It should wear the name of Christ because He is the head of the church. (Eph. 1:22-23; Col. 1:18)
- IS IT WRONG FOR THE CHURCH TO WEAR THE NAMES OF MEN?
- Some Corinthians in the church at Corinth were condemned, by Paul,
for wearing the names of men. (1 Cor. 1:11-15)
- Those who called themselves by the names of men were called carnal
minded. (1 Cor. 3:3-4) It is dangerous to have a carnal mind. (Rom. 8:6)
- It would be wrong for a man's wife to wear the name of another man.
The church is the bride of Christ, therefore, should wear his name. (Eph. 5:23-27)

- Disciples. (Acts 6:1,2,7; 9:10,25,26; 11:16)
- Brethren. (Acts 10:23; 11:1, 12; 20:32)
- Saints. (Acts 26:10; Rom. 1:7; Eph. 4:12)
- Priests. (1 Pet. 2:9; Rev. 1:6)
- Believers. (Acts 5:14; 2 Cor. 6:16)
- The people of God. (Heb. 4:9)
- The children of God. (I Jno. 3:1)
- Christians, (Acts 11:26; 26:28; 1 Pet. 4:16)
(The name CHRISTIAN includes every name that in used to describe the followers of Jesus Christ.)
