CAN ONE BE SAVED OUT OF THE CHURCH?
Acts 20:28; Eph 5:23
Introduction:
- Why ask this? All who believe can be saved in the church. Of two medicines, you know one is right one. Which take?
- No modern denomination meant here. No one claims these necessary to salvation. They foster division. John 17:20.
- Study of this theme necessary. No "Yes" and "No" answers but scriptures. Study prayerfully. 1 Peter 4:11.
- Branch Bear Fruit Out of Vine? John 15:1-8. Christ is the true vine. Christians are the branches. Saved in church (Acts 2:47) and in Christ (Gal. 3:27.)
- Saved and Lost at Same Time? Matt. 12:30. Lost out of Christ and the church. Ephesians 2:12; Cf. 1:3, 7.
- Saved Without Reconciliation? 2 Cor. 5:18-20. Reconciled in church. Eph. 2:16, Acts 2:47.
- Saved Without Being New Creatures? 2 Cor. 5:17. New creatures in Christ hence not saved out of church.
- Saved Without Being Sanctified - Heb. 12:14. Sanctified in the church. I Cor. 1:1-2. Only saved in church as added by the Lord. Acts 2:47.
- Saved Out of Christ? Eph. 1:3, 7. Cf. Col. 1:13. Baptized into Christ. (Gal. 3:27.) Baptized into His Body, the church. (I Cor. 12:12-13.) But saved in the church; then not saved out of the church.
- Saved Without Christ's Blood? Heb. 9:22; 10:4. Blood saves. Matt. 26:28. 1 Timothy 3:15-Christ the door. (John 10:7-9.) As blood on door in Egypt, so here. (Exodus 12.)
Conclusion: Obedience test of acceptance. Matt. 7:21, Heb. 5:8-9. All arguments show not saved outside the church. Enter church by three steps: Believe, repent and be baptized into Christ-into the church. Saved.
